Mexico Grand Prix, 28-29 October

Third edition of Amber Lounge Mexico City to be a party with purpose, as Founder and CEO, Sonia Irvine, announces fundraising initiative to directly benefit earthquake relief.

With the countdown now on to Amber Lounge Mexico City, Founder and CEO Sonia Irvine has announced that the third edition of this prestigious event will raise funds for local charity Fundacion Origen, directly benefiting those suffering in the aftermath of last month’s devastating earthquakes.

Fundacion Origen is a comprehensive platform caring for women in vulnerable situations, supporting their education, health, human and economic development. In 2003, at precisely the same time that Amber Lounge was founded, the charity’s community development centers began offering vital solutions to women and their families in crisis situations in Mexico, through two social programs: Origin Help Line and Casa Origin Centers.

Following the recent earthquakes, Fundacion Origen deployed care brigades of specialized psychologists to provide crisis care for victims. Donations received at their collection centers were distributed in affected states, providing humanitarian aid equivalent to 500 tons.

Charitable endeavor has been at the heart of the Amber Lounge philosophy since its very first F1 Drivers Fashion Show in 2006. The occasion is now the prelude to the Grand Prix weekend’s afterparties at three annual events – Monaco, Singapore and Mexico City. Beyond the style and the high-profile international media attention, Amber Lounge Fashion and charity auctions have garnered awareness all over the world and raised more than USD 5 Million for charitable organizations, including the Special Olympics, the Elton John AIDS Foundation, the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund and the Sergio Pérez Foundation. As Amber Lounge is renowned for entertaining the most influential guests, giving back to charity has become a core part of its philosophy.

Commenting on the announcement of Amber Lounge’s latest important fundraising initiative, Founder and CEO Sonia Irvine said:

We have many wonderful friends here in Mexico City and it has been very difficult to watch its people experiencing such distress in recent months. This country has always been incredibly kind to Amber Lounge, so we wanted to find a way to return some of that kindness and help the city.

“We typically raise funds at our Fashion Show events through either a live or silent auction, but this year in Mexico we will also be donating 5% of the profits from the Show and two afterparties to charity.

“In selecting an appropriate charity, impact was key, and for that reason we have chosen Fundacion Origen as our partner, to ensure there is a direct benefit to the people of Mexico City as it continues its recovery. So, our guests will be helping us to help Mexico City, and for that reason we are committed to making the third edition our best yet!”

The weekend gets started on 28th October with the SATURDAY EXTRAVAGANZA, including the spectacular Amber Lounge FORMULA 1 Driver Fashion Show featuring a catwalk presentation with designs from some of the world’s top fashion houses.
