Useful Tips

Traditionally Abu Dhabi is more conservative than Dubai as it has a more regimented legal system and is deeply rooted in tradition.

What to wear

When visiting public places like shopping malls, women should wear clothing that covers their shoulders and legs below the knee. For a restaurant or club outside of a hotel or resort, cover your shoulders to and from the venue.

Speaking Arabic isn't necessary

At 4 or 5 star hotels, all staff speak English and many are multilingual.

Hello: As-salam alaykom

Thank you: Shukran

Tipping your waiter, hotel staff, taxi driver and car valet 10% cash for good service is common practice. Check your bill in restaurants as some of the high-end dining establishments add 10% gratuity automatically.

Be Culturally Aware

Public displays of affection are strictly forbidden in Abu Dhabi, unless you are in a hotel or resort. You can find yourself imprisoned for anything more than holding hands.

The Buzz About Lanson

The perfect balance between luxury, elegance and extravagant living, Amber Lounge found a champagne worthy of royalty.

Mr Anton Hobbs from House of Lanson reveals the lavish role Lanson Champagne will play at Amber Lounge Singapore, to create a truly unique, luxury and unforgettable experience.

Enjoying the golden nectar…
“Spraying champagne is only really reserved for Grand Prix F1 winners, - and unfortunately there is only one of them on Grand Prix Day. But the remainder of us mere mortals can find true consolation in actually just enjoying the golden nectar.”

Creation of Champagne Lanson…
“The Lanson and Delamotte families go back to the origins of the today's Lanson brand, way back to the founding year of 1760. As for the inspiration? Let's just call it French Flair!”

The event everyone wants to be invited to…
“The Amber Lounge is an established event at the Singapore F1, one of the events everyone wants to be invited to. Professionally managed, with a long-track record, and tuned in to people who know how to have a good time, and wish to celebrate, - it's a natural match!”

Looking forward to the extraordinary combination…
“The Amber Lounge always gives a very special 'Buzz'. Throw in the unique 'Fizz' of Champagne Lanson, you get a really extraordinary combination, or is it 'Bizz', or even 'Fuzz'?!?! Me? I'll look forward to all of those concepts, - or even experiences!?”

100 Years of Excellent Style

The hair experts behind Amber Lounge’s Fashion Shows reveal the story and tradition behind their creative styles, and what it’s really like to work with Daniel Ricciardo’s locks.

Our brand Inmann stands for a long tradition…

We are running our hair dressing salon in the fourth generation and our salon has been existing for more than 100 years now and we are very successful national and international. Marco Inmann styled Grace Jones in Venice and had his own fashion-show at the Kremlin Palace in Moscow, only to name a few steps in the past.

On the other hand we are known for translating and creating the latest trends and styles, luxurious but always with a touch of casualness, that's essential for us. And that's what we also see in regard to Amber Lounge, luxury feeling and great locations, happy people but in a relaxed and friendly ambiance - and moreover for a good cause!

We can identify with that very well and for us it's a great pleasure and we are very proud to be partner of Amber Lounge over 12 years now.

At Amber Lounge Singapore…

We look forward to the cooperation and new ideas of the designer - to help to bring these ideas to the catwalk, to work with great people. What I especially look forward to is that my team (and me) will be able to demonstrate our skills and professionalism, and of course we will enjoy the great party after a successful show! :-)))

Hair styling tips for a night out in Singapore?

To brave the humidity and heat use products without H2O or anti-frizz products like hair oils. And for ladies… natural looking updo like a loose bun in the neck, wet look combed out of the face with a glossy finish, plaits for day and night.

Working with the F1 drivers…

Daniel Ricciardo to Marco Inmann backstage at the Amber Lounge Fashion Show in Monaco: We have the same hair, very curly, I trust him to 100% - winners are looking like that! …next day Daniel had pole position and the day after he won the race with second place.

A few years ago, Jenson Button said he had never looked as good as he does now, backstage at the Fashion Show.

Singapore is buzzing with bars and nightclubs with the finest nightlife around the city centre. Exploring Singapore’s nightlife is a must if you want to feel the true night-pulse of the Lion City.

Holland Village
This Singapore neighbourhood loves to flaunt its alter-ego as soon as the sun sets. Due to its more out-of-town location, this popular nightlife spot draws in more of a local crowd, as well as a good helping of expats who’ve made this city their home. The main evening activities happen along ‘Lorong Mambong’, where you’ll find some cool and quirky pop-up bars, fancy alfresco restaurants and the occasional street party.

Singapore History

During the 14th century, this small but strategically-located island earned a new name. According to legend, Sang Nila Utama, a Prince from Palembang (the capital of Srivijaya), was out on a hunting trip when he caught sight of an animal he had never seen before. Taking it to be a good sign, he founded a city where the animal had been spotted, naming it The Lion Cityor Singapura, from the Sanskrit words simha(lion) and pura(city).

The city was then ruled by the five kings of ancient Singapura. Located at the tip of the Malay Peninsula, the natural meeting point of sea routes, the city flourished as a trading post for vessels such as Chinese junks, Arab dhows, Portuguese battleships and Buginese schooners.

A lot of the city centre is in lock-down during Grand Prix week and most of the time the easiest way to get around is by train or walking past the blocked areas then jump in a taxi or Grab car.

By Train

Singapores MRT system is probably the fastest way to zip around the city. The rail network is accessible to Singapores key attractions are within walking distance from an MRT station. You can buy tickets for single trips or you can buy a Tourist Pass, a special EZ-Link stored-value card which allows you unlimited travel for one day (S$10), two days (S$16) or three days (S$20). Singapores trains and stations are accessible to wheel chair users and the visually impaired, as well as families with strollers.

By Taxi

Taxis are comfortable and especially handy if you want to go to places not accessible by bus or MRT. They are metered, but there may be surcharges depending on when, where and which companys taxi you board. You can hail a taxi by the roadside at most places, or queue for at a taxi stands found at most shopping malls, hotels and tourist attractions. If you wish to book a cab, you can call a common taxi booking number, 6-DIAL CAB (6342-5222). Note that traffic during Singapore Grand Prix week is at its worst so ask for the best place to catch a taxi to avoid this.

Grab merged with Uber to enable safe and affordable transport when getting around the city. Simply download the free Grab App to book a ride and pay quick and safely.

4 Singapore Grand Prix facts

The track is 4 times more brightly lit than a football stadium, with 1,600 lighting projectors, each with internal reflectors that project the light beams at different angels to prevent it from blinding the drivers.

This circuit has 23 corners which is more that any other circuit. The fact that most of these are fairly tight helps contribute to Singapore having one of the longest average lap times on the calendar.

In little over an hour, F1 drivers are exposed to sauna-like conditions in the cockpit, causing them to lose between two to three litres of water during each race. Drivers are required to drink up to 8 litres of water to keep themselves fully hydrated, as they usually loose up to 4kg of weight per race.

F1 drivers experience extreme forces of up to 4.5 –5 times of their gravitational force, which basically means that they are supporting 5 times their body weight just on their necks during the race.

Hot Tips for a Night Out in Singapore

As Amber Lounge Singapore's grooming and make-up team, Global Hair & Makeup, prepares for our next big event, we grabbed them to find out how you can look your best on Singapore Grand Prix week.

Singapore is an incredible event…

And the fashion show Amber Lounge stages always has amazing designers. Creating the 'look' is always exciting for the team as is catching up with the drivers. Singapore normally has the most dramatic fashion makeup look of all the shows we do. We always make time for a foot massage in Singapore and food is also something to look forward too.

Global Hair & Makeup’s Top 3 beauty and make-up tips for a night out in Singapore…

• Definitely keep your makeup light and fresh.

• Let the skin's natural glow come through and keep it simple.

• Use a good base whether it's a moisturiser or a mattifying primer.

• Use waterproof mascara to create beautiful lashes and if wearing eyeshadow keep it to a minimum.

• In hot weather or conditions you can run with just an eyeliner and mascara and a little cream blush.

• You can also apply a setting spray if you want at the end of your makeup.

Our advice for men to look their best on a night out at Amber Lounge Singapore?...

• For men, their skin will benefit from a moisturiser and they too can use a mist spray to feel fresh.

• Carrying several blotting papers in their pocket is a quick way to remove any excess perspiration from the face.

• When it comes to men, a great smelling cologne and a smile is the secret.

Grooming the F1 drivers for the catwalk…

The drivers like a 'less is more' approach so when I have a driver sitting in my chair I keep the grooming light. I'll start with moisturising the skin and also apply a lip balm. Any blemishes will be spot concealed and if required, I even out the skin tone with a little foundation BUT only if needed. To finish, I apply a dusting of translucent powder to stop shine so that the men look their best on the runway.

I have a lot of laughs with the drivers especially Pierre Gasly….

We normally chat about a range of things but nothing in particular. There are always other drivers around so they are joking and stirring each other. When I started working with the drivers 3 years ago, Daniel couldn't believe I was coming at him with a makeup brush. Being Australian, like me, I remember saying "I'm Australian and we like our men are rugged, so relax". That bought a laugh and a sense of relief so I was able to make Daniel feel comfortable.

Lots of comments and digs at each other with 'he needs more makeup than any of us', and one of my favourite liners to the drivers are "You're perfect, so I don't need to do too much".

Working with the drivers is a pleasure and over the years I have had a lot of laughs with Max, Daniel, Pierre, Marcus, Esteban, Sergey, Charles, Brendan, Carmen and others.

Global Hair & Makeup chose to partner with Amber Lounge because…

Amber Lounge provides an elite product and a VIP experience to its guests which is in line with what Global Hair & Makeup offers. Global Hair & Makeup also provides talented makeup artists for VIP events and clients around the world so it was a perfect partnership.

15-16 September at Singapore Grand Prix

Bold, intricate, head-turning designs will dominate the Amber Lounge Singapore Fashion Show catwalk on September 15, with local talents Nida Shay and Q Menswear hand-picked as this year’s designers. An electrifying runway display with edgy style and an incredibly entertaining show will take place at the exotic Asian destination, followed by an unforgettable weekend of Amber Lounge’s iconic parties.

International models will showcase Nida Shay’s elegant signature womenswear looks, with breath-taking, hand-embroidered pieces to fit Amber Lounge’s crystal theme which marks its 15thAnniversary in 2018. Shay’s colourful career spans Paris, the Middle-East and Asia where she is now one of Singapore’s most vibrant designers thanks to her stunning embellished creations.

Drivers will swap their race suits for bespoke evening suits by Han San of Q Menswear. Tailored to accentuate the personality of the modern gentleman the chic brand boasts one of the top men’s lifestyle stores in Singapore, favouring Italian fabrics with a soft, slim cut.

Iconic luxury brand CHANEL will also be displaying their stunning Monsieur Haute Horlogerie range to Amber Lounge guests on the night. Their fine watchmaking and technical excellence will be admired and celebrated at the most sought-after F1 party destination.

The display will compliment Amber Lounge’s new interior which has been transformed following its 15th Anniversary. Sleek black sofas and enormous chandeliers create a new elegant but sultry vibe.

With charity at the heart of every Amber Lounge Fashion Show we’re also thrilled to announce Make-A-Wish Singapore as the beneficiary for the second year in a row.

As one of the most anticipated events of the Singapore Grand Prix weekend, Make-a-Wish Singapore will be a central focus of the Fashion Show. Generous donations from the silent auction will light up the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions by granting their ultimate wish.

The Fashion Show kicks off a glamorous weekend of endless entertainment and euphoric nights at Amber Lounge, the biggest and most exclusive F1 parties in town. World-famous personalities and VIP guests, including leading figures from Formula 1, CEOs of global companies and other generous bidders will come together and support Make-A-Wish Singapore. A range of iconic items and money-can’t-buy experiences have been donated.

Make-A-Wish Foundation International has brought to life the wishes of over 415,000 children in 40 countries, making it the largest wish-granting organisation in the world. In April 2002, the Singapore affiliate launched and has now made over 1,300 children’s wishes a reality. The charity has the incredible goal of reaching every medically eligible child in Singapore.

Sonia Irvine, CEO of Amber Lounge, said: “I have always wanted to help people in need. Since 2006, the first of our Fashion Shows, the Amber Lounge brand is used to raise awareness and much-needed money for noble causes. Creating the Fashion Show is the thing I am most proud of because I see people willing to help our cause and donate funds for the different charity campaigns. I’m incredibly excited to once again team up with Make-a-Wish Singapore to help brighten the lives of sick children and grant many more wishes. Having two children of my own, this charity is very special to me and promotes a cause that is close to my heart.”

Nida Shay said: “I am thrilled to be the headline designer in the Amber Lounge Fashion Show this year. It's a fabulous star-studded evening full of glitz and glamour and great music with incredible international exposure. Undeniably one of the best and most anticipated events to take place in Singapore which is why I am so excited to be part of it.”

The night will begin with black carpet arrivals followed by the Fashion Show. Giant methusalems of Cuvée Carbon, the official Champagne of Formula 1, will feature as centerpieces on the most desired guest tables in the room to kick off the SATURDAY EXTRAVAGANZA after party. International DJs, dancers and headline sets from a world-famous act,to be announced soon, will ensure an electric atmosphere on the dancefloor until sunrise.
