Everything you need to know about the return of the F1 in ZANDVOORT

After 35 years away, F1 returns to the Netherlands, and once again the impressive Zandvoort circuit, situated between the sand dunes, will be hosting a spectacular weekend of racing. Listen out for the orange fans as they cheer on the local hero and Red Bull driver Max Verstappen.

This circuit is known in racing circles as a truly exciting track with the infamous Tarzan first corner and the last Arie Luyendijkbocht corner that has an incredible 32% (18 degrees) banking and we cannot wait to start the European season of Formula 1 here.

Can any F1 records be broken in the Netherlands…

Max Verstappen could become the first Dutch driver to win his home race.

If Lewis Hamilton stands on every podium before the Dutch Grand Prix, he will have the chance to break Michael Schumacher’s podium record (155) at Zandvoort.

The last Dutch Grand Prix was held in Zandvoort in 1985, it was also the 25th and last victory of the great Niki Lauda.

Travelling to Zandvoort during F1 weekend

Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS) is the nearest airport to Circuit Zandvoort. It will take you around 1h20 to get from the airport to the circuit and we can organize these transfers for you, from private jets to ground limos and vans, let us know your requirements and we can cater for your every needs.

Did you know… Netherlands

Netherlands literally means “lower countries”, because of its flat contours.

There are still more than 1,000 working windmills.

The infamous Eindhoven company, Philips, created the first CD, video and audiotape.

Incredibly Amsterdam is built on wooden poles that are 11 meters deep!

When you think of The Netherlands, automatically you think of cycling. There are about 15,000 km of bike lanes in the country and more bikes than there are people (18 million vs 17.5 million). It is also the safest place in the world to cycle.

The Dutch national flag evolved throughout the years. It was created back in 1572 and was initially called the "Prince’s Flag" because of the Prince of Orange. It was a tricolor flag composed of orange white and blue. There are many stories about why the orange was replaced with red but nevertheless this flag is the oldest tricolor in the world.

Carrots became orange thanks to horticulturalists from the House of Orange. It led the revolt against the Spanish. At the start they were black, yellow, red, purple or white.

VIETNAM GP IS READY TO STEAL THE SPOTLIGHT

Everything you need to know about the FIRST EVER F1® race in VIETNAM

The Hanoi Circuit is a creation of the circuit designer Hermann Tilke and F1’s own Motorsports division. The challenging street circuit includes 23 incredible corners, with one purpose-built area. Some parts of the circuit are directly inspired from F1’s most classic tracks, like the first corners of the Nürburgring, passing by the hill climb of Massenet in Monaco or the high-speed Esses in Suzuka! It also has the longest straight on the F1 calendar, which at 1,6km will produce some blistering speed. This is the opportunity for Formula 1® fans to experience drivers battling on one of the quickest street circuits in the world!

Each grandstand will be named in reference to country heritage, such as the Thăng Long Grandstand which references the original name of Hanoi. The pit building will be an impressive piece of Vietnamese style.

We can’t wait to get underway!

2020 F1® trivia...

2020 is the 70th F1 season (F1 was created in 1950, first race held at Silverstone the 13th of May 1950) during that period, there have been 33 champions, 108 winners, 1018 races, 764 drivers and 150 teams.

Vietnam is the 33rd country to host a Grand Prix, it will be the third round of the 2020 F1 season and will be the 1021st race in F1’s history.

Lewis Hamilton could equal Michael Schumacher's record by winning a seventh championship this year.

If Charles Leclerc or Max Verstappen make it to World Champion, they will beat Sebastian Vettel’s record of becoming the youngest ever World Champion (23 years old), 2020 is their last chance to break this record, so no pressure boys!

By the time of the British Grand Prix (17th-19th July), Kimi Raikkonen will beat Rubens Barrichello’s race start record (322 starts).

Travelling to Hanoi GP

Noi Bai Airport (HAN) is the main airport of Hanoi, it takes around 45 minutes to get from the airport to the city centre. Travelling to Hanoi city centre is super easy, we can organise transfers for you, from private jets to ground limos and vans, let us know your requirements and we can cater for your every need. Alternatively, you can be adventurous and try a tuktuk or bike taxi.

Vietnam must-sees...

Hoan Kiem Lake - This is a magnificent lake that surrounds the Ngoc Son Temple, perfect to enjoy peace and quiet in the middle of the crowded capital.

Hanoi Opera House – Built in 1911, this is one of the most stunning buildings in Hanoi, with French and Vietnamese architectural references, taking inspiration from the Paris Opera House.

Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum - A huge granite building where the notorious Vietnamese leader Ho Chi Minh is interred. The Soviet-inspired construction is based on the mausoleum built for Lenin and was opened to the public in 1975.

Hoa Lo Prison - Built to imprison Vietnamese political campaigners by the French in 1913, this prison was used during the Vietnam War and named the Hanoi Hilton by American prisoners of war.  The American senator John McCain (1936-2018) was imprisoned here when he served in the conflict.

One Pillar Pagoda - Built in tribute to Vietnamese Buddhist deity Quan Am, the construction took 26 years, and was completed in 1054. This historic temple, in the iconic Lotus shape, is one of the most important sites in Hanoi.

Flag Tower - Constructed in 1812 by the Nguyen Dynasty, the Flag Tower displays the Vietnamese flag atop the 41metre high building.

Lotte Observation Deck - Situated on the 65th floor of the Lotte Centre offers a magnificent panoramic view of Hanoi. The rooftop bar offers a range of cocktails.

Presidential Palace - Built to house the Governor-General of Indochina in 1900-06 by French architect Auguste Henri Vildieu, this is a magnificent example of French colonial style adjacent to the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. The Presidential Palace is open to the public, as are the beautiful gardens that surround it.

St Joseph Cathedral - Another example of French influence, the cathedral takes inspiration from Notre Dame de Paris in late 19th century gothic revival style. It is home to the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Hanoi.

A taste of Vietnam

Hanoi Weekend Night Market - Every weekend, the famous night market takes place offering typical Vietnamese street food, where visitors can indulge in tasty local treats while enjoying shows and shopping.

Banh Mi 25 - The Banh Mi specialist, you can’t miss it when you’re in Vietnam! A fusion of French and Vietnamese ingredients, this is the taste of Hanoi in a baguette!

Phở Gia Truyền Bát Đàn - Pho is a typical Vietnamese soup with noodles and meat. Phở Gia Truyền Bát Đàn is the best place to eat like a local and enjoy one of the most iconic taste experiences in Hanoi.

Bun Cha Huong Lien - Bun Cha is another flavoursome Vietnamese dish, featuring grilled pork and noodles. Bun Cha Huong Lien is the place to be if you want to eat Hanoi’s speciality, even Barack Obama came here to try it!

Giang Cafe - Giang Cafe is considered to be an important gastronomic landmark because it was founded by Mr. Nguyen Giang, the man who created the egg coffee back in 1946. If you want to taste Hanoi’s most famous speciality, raw egg yolk mixed sugar and black coffee, then Giang Cafe is the place to discover it.

Did you know…

Vietnam is the second largest coffee-producing nation after Brazil – 19% of the world’s coffee originates from here.

Incredibly, there are more than 45 million motorcycles in Vietnam, which represents about half of the country’s population! (95 million people). In comparison, due to the cost, there are only 2 million cars in the country.

New Year in Vietnam (named Tet), is celebrated around February each year because the country uses the lunar calendar instead of the Georgian. This year, Vietnam’s New Year fell on the 25th of January 2020.

Vietnam has an “S” shape and has more than 3000km coastline.

Fun facts about Hanoi

In the Vietnamese language, Ha means ‘river’ and Noi means ‘inner’. Hanoi, therefore, was named because it is located between the Red River and Nhue River.

Hanoi is one of the most ancient capitals in the world, celebrating the 1010th anniversary this year.

You can find the largest mural mosaic in the world in Hanoi, it measures 4 km.

Known colloquially as “Tube Houses”, Hanoi houses are super narrow because the land price is very expensive.

Created in 1946 by Mr Nguyen Giang, Egg Coffee is the most famous speciality of Hanoi. Egg replaced milk in the coffee, this is because before the 1970s, milk was very expensive, and Hanoi’s citizens were extremely poor. Egg coffee is made from yolk mixed with sugar; it may be an acquired taste, but it would be a shame to visit Hanoi without trying it.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc takes his 2nd Grand Prix win

Following a controversial Q3, Charles Leclerc took full advantage of his pole position and triumphed at Monza, producing his second Formula 1 career win for Ferrari despite a late surge by Valtteri Bottas for Mercedes.

This home win for Scuderia Ferrari, celebrating their 90thanniversary this year, was met with triumph by the partisan Monza spectators who turned the grandstands into a sea of red. The celebrations were particularly poignant following the muted celebrations of Leclerc’s first win at Spa Francorchamps, reflecting the sadness in the paddock due to tragic Formula 2 incident that led to the loss of Anthoine Hubert and the ongoing condition of Juan Manuel Correa.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-ce3gPMsGc

Leclerc became the youngest Ferrari driver to win at Monza and ended a nine-year losing streak at Monza for Ferrari sending the tifosi into raptures of delight. Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton completed the podium, but the Renault team were perhaps the most delighted with their 4thand 5thplaces – easily their most successful weekend of the season so far. Daniel Ricciardo and Nico Hulkenberg had locked out the third row of the grid on Saturday and they were able to capitalise on Sebastian Vettel’s spin with Ricciardo. Full race results below:

  1. Charles Leclers Ferrari
  2. Valtteri Bottas Mercedes
  3. Lewis Hamilton Mercedes
  4. Daniel Ricciardo Renault
  5. Nico Hulkenberg Renault
  6. Alexander Albon Reb Bull
  7. Sergio Perez Racing Point
  8. Max Verstappen Red Bull
  9. Antonio Giovinazzi Alfa Romeo
  10. Lando Norris McLaren
  11. Pierre Gasly Toro Rosso
  12. Lance Stroll Racing Point
  13. Sebastian Vettel Ferrari
  14. George Russell Williams
  15. Kimi Raikkonen Afla Romeo
  16. Romain Grosjean Haas
  17. Robert Kubica Williams
  18. NC Kevin Magnussen Hass
  19. NC Daniil Kvyat Toro Rosso
  20. NC Carlos Sainz Jnr McLaren

The excitement of Monza will be at least doubled in Singapore – the city will be lit up for Formula 1’s night race and Amber Lounge will be there to lead the celebrations.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Helpful tips for your visit to Singapore during the Formula 1®

Singapore is such a special travel destination that you may want to leave a couple of days extra in your planning to enjoy Singapore after the excitement of the night time racing of the Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix.  Singapore is one of the most expensive countries in South East Asia and to ensure that you make the most of your experience, here are a few helpful tips to ease your visit.

TRAVEL

The cheapest and most convenient way to travel round Singapore is to use the extensive public transport system the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT).  A Singapore tourist pass can be purchased which allows unlimited travel both on the MRT and on the bus.  Obviously, some roads will be closed for the Grand Prix weekend which will cause some disruption to the buses (guide below) but this will not affect the MRT.  Taxis are more expensive and Uber is no longer used in Singapore but there is an app called Grab which is very similar to Uber and can be used for ride sharing.

WHAT TO WEAR

Singapore enjoys a year-round tropical climate with high humidity and temperatures ranging from 26 to 34 degrees celcius (78-93 degrees farenheit).  Wear loose clothing in natural fibres if you want to avoid melting into a frazzled mess.

EATING

The rule of thumb here is to eat with the locals. Singapore offers an array of hipster cafes and fine dining restaurants but the local hawker centres are the best places to try authentic local cuisine.  For those suspicious of questionable food hygiene standards, look out for coloured placards which rate every stall from A (the best) to D (possible risk). Smith Street, Little India and Chinatown are places to look out for.

RULES

Singapore is one of the safest cities to visit in the world, due in part to its many laws and regulations which must be strictly adhered to.  Spitting in the street, smoking in public, littering (including sticking chewing gum on public property) will result in a fine.  Illegal drug taking is harshly punished. Smoking is banned in restaurants and clubs as well as within a fixed perimeter around public transport hubs and it is advised to seek out the yellow smokers’ boxes if you really need a smoke!

WATER

The tap water in Singapore is safe to drink so remember your refillable bottle and save the planet!

COMMUNICATION

Wi-fi can be expensive but it is easy to charge your devices as electrical plugs are the same configuration as in the UK.

TIPPING

Tipping for good service is not part of Singapore culture so staff will not expect a tip although it is obviously welcome if you wish to reward excellent service.  Smaller shops and hawkers usually charge a 7% goods and services tax and bars and restaurants often charge an additional 10% service charge (denoted on your bill with a ++ symbol).

ELLA EYRE AND SIGALA SET TO HEADLINE AMBER LOUNGE SINGAPORE

Sigala has collaborated with countless artists including French Montana, John Newman, Nile Rogers and Paloma Faith and his sets are guaranteed to see you dancing the night away.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uq8fE3kKIBk

Amber Lounge are celebrating their 12th year at the Singapore Formula 1® Grand Prix with its customary style reflecting the glamour and excitement of Singapore in a non-stop weekend of exciting action.

Guests will be treated to a fashion show featuring collections from Singapore couturier Mr. G and elegant designs by Frieda Brides, alongside a silent auction to raise funds for "Make A Wish Singapore". The Ice White theme, the perfect antidote to the steaming heat of the Singapore Circuit, will be reflected at the Amber Lounge party where performing artists and dancers will circulate amongst celebrities and VIPs drinking unlimited champagne. With a backdrop of Singapore’s Marina Bay, this truly is the hottest and most Instagram worthy location on the Formula 1® after party calendar.

Sonia Irvine, Amber Lounge’s CEO extols

“We are thrilled to have Ella Eyre performing at Amber Lounge Singapore. Her energy is contagious, and we look forward to seeing her perform alongside resident DJ Sigala to raise the roof at another unforgettable Amber Lounge party."
