Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc takes his 2nd Grand Prix win

Following a controversial Q3, Charles Leclerc took full advantage of his pole position and triumphed at Monza, producing his second Formula 1 career win for Ferrari despite a late surge by Valtteri Bottas for Mercedes.

This home win for Scuderia Ferrari, celebrating their 90thanniversary this year, was met with triumph by the partisan Monza spectators who turned the grandstands into a sea of red. The celebrations were particularly poignant following the muted celebrations of Leclerc’s first win at Spa Francorchamps, reflecting the sadness in the paddock due to tragic Formula 2 incident that led to the loss of Anthoine Hubert and the ongoing condition of Juan Manuel Correa.

Leclerc became the youngest Ferrari driver to win at Monza and ended a nine-year losing streak at Monza for Ferrari sending the tifosi into raptures of delight. Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton completed the podium, but the Renault team were perhaps the most delighted with their 4thand 5thplaces – easily their most successful weekend of the season so far. Daniel Ricciardo and Nico Hulkenberg had locked out the third row of the grid on Saturday and they were able to capitalise on Sebastian Vettel’s spin with Ricciardo. Full race results below:

Helpful tips for your visit to Singapore during the Formula 1®

Singapore is such a special travel destination that you may want to leave a couple of days extra in your planning to enjoy Singapore after the excitement of the night time racing of the Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix.  Singapore is one of the most expensive countries in South East Asia and to ensure that you make the most of your experience, here are a few helpful tips to ease your visit.

The cheapest and most convenient way to travel round Singapore is to use the extensive public transport system the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT).  A Singapore tourist pass can be purchased which allows unlimited travel both on the MRT and on the bus.  Obviously, some roads will be closed for the Grand Prix weekend which will cause some disruption to the buses (guide below) but this will not affect the MRT.  Taxis are more expensive and Uber is no longer used in Singapore but there is an app called Grab which is very similar to Uber and can be used for ride sharing.

Singapore enjoys a year-round tropical climate with high humidity and temperatures ranging from 26 to 34 degrees celcius (78-93 degrees farenheit).  Wear loose clothing in natural fibres if you want to avoid melting into a frazzled mess.

The rule of thumb here is to eat with the locals. Singapore offers an array of hipster cafes and fine dining restaurants but the local hawker centres are the best places to try authentic local cuisine.  For those suspicious of questionable food hygiene standards, look out for coloured placards which rate every stall from A (the best) to D (possible risk). Smith Street, Little India and Chinatown are places to look out for.

Singapore is one of the safest cities to visit in the world, due in part to its many laws and regulations which must be strictly adhered to.  Spitting in the street, smoking in public, littering (including sticking chewing gum on public property) will result in a fine.  Illegal drug taking is harshly punished. Smoking is banned in restaurants and clubs as well as within a fixed perimeter around public transport hubs and it is advised to seek out the yellow smokers’ boxes if you really need a smoke!

The tap water in Singapore is safe to drink so remember your refillable bottle and save the planet!

Wi-fi can be expensive but it is easy to charge your devices as electrical plugs are the same configuration as in the UK.

Tipping for good service is not part of Singapore culture so staff will not expect a tip although it is obviously welcome if you wish to reward excellent service.  Smaller shops and hawkers usually charge a 7% goods and services tax and bars and restaurants often charge an additional 10% service charge (denoted on your bill with a ++ symbol).

F1 Action resumes

The wait is almost over. Second part of the Formula 1 season is fast approaching. Belgium and the high-speed Spa-Francorchamps will be the next stop on the F1 calendar. The nearly one-month summer break saw Aston Martin Red Bull Racing promote Alex Albon as Max Verstappen’s new teammate. Pierre Gasly will be racing for Toro Rosso for the remaining of the season.

Albon, who has scored 16 points so far this season, has been ecstatic about the opportunity to represent Aston Martin Red Bull Racing starting from the Belgian Grand Prix. He shared his delight on Social Media by saying: “Surreal to have been given this massive opportunity”.

The F1 race in Belgium is a very important one for Scuderia Ferrari as the fast Spa-Francorchamps track gives them an opportunity to bridge the gap to their rivals from Mercedes and Red Bull as recent wins for Max Verstappen in Austria and Germany saw him overtake Sebastian Vettel in 3rd place in the current ranking. Five-time Formula 1 Champion Lewis Hamilton sits comfortably in 1st with teammate Valtteri Bottas in 2nd.

F1 Update - Mercedes continue to dominate

Lewis Hamilton’s winning streak continued at the 2019 French Grand Prix as the reigning world champion dominated the race with a lights-to-flag win, gaining his sixth victory at Circuit Paul Ricard out of the eight F1 races of the 2019 season. Hamilton picked up his 200th career points finish from 237 F1 starts. His success extended his lead over Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas. The triumph spread throughout the team as Mercedes gained their eighth successive 2019 victory.

"We’re creating history together and I'm so proud of everyone, I’m so proud to be a part of this team, this group of people and Valtteri did a good job this weekend as well."

Lewis Hamilton

Ferrari driver, Charles Leclerc crossed the chequered flag behind Hamilton and Bottas, whilst his teammate Sebastian Vettel only managed to secure fifth place. Having boxed for the penultimate lap for soft tyres, Vettel locked in the fastest lap, receiving the bonus point for the 2019 French Grand Prix, bringing his points up to 111 sitting behind current leader Lewis Hamilton who’s on 187 and his Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas on 151.

The race wasn’t as successful for Renault driver Daniel Ricciardo who came into trouble after receiving 2 x 5 second penalties; for leaving the track and gaining an advantage as well as failing to rejoin the track safely, originally finishing in 7th, but after the post-race penalties were given finishing in 11th.

Next stop in the Grand Prix calendar is Red Bull Ring, Austria, June 28-30.

F1 Update: Hamilton’s Triumph in Monaco

A devastating home race for Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc turned into a brilliant victory for Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton. The 77thMonaco Grand Prix brought Lewis his 77thcareer win and third win at the legendary street circuit, which he dedicated to the late, great Niki Lauda.

On Sunday, the grid was filled with drivers sporting red caps in remembrance of the Formula 1 icon who passed away a few days before the race weekend. Hamilton wore a Niki Lauda tribute helmet as he raced, designed specifically for the Monaco GP.

Lewis Hamilton said,

“That was probably the hardest race I’ve had, but nonetheless I really was fighting with the spirit of Niki. I was trying to stay focused and trying to make him proud. That’s been the goal all week and we’re going to try to continue that through the year. We truly miss him.”

As worn rubber began to line the streets of Monaco, Leclerc experienced another disappointing chapter in his F1 career. He retired on lap 18 due to a damaged rear tyre.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen fought the Mercedes of Hamilton right to the last lap, pushing to steal first place but ending up in 4thdue to a penalty for unsafe release.

Watching the F1 battlefield from Amber Lounge’s trackside yachts were celebrities Blaise Matuidi, Josephine Skriver, Olivia Culpo, Madison Headrick, Marco Verratti and Mark Cavendish MBE among a host of other VIP guests. Come Sunday night the Amber Lounge GP after party was the places to be as drivers, teams, celebrities and VIP guests celebrated with 2019 Monaco Grand Prix.
