Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc takes his 2nd Grand Prix win

Following a controversial Q3, Charles Leclerc took full advantage of his pole position and triumphed at Monza, producing his second Formula 1 career win for Ferrari despite a late surge by Valtteri Bottas for Mercedes.

This home win for Scuderia Ferrari, celebrating their 90thanniversary this year, was met with triumph by the partisan Monza spectators who turned the grandstands into a sea of red. The celebrations were particularly poignant following the muted celebrations of Leclerc’s first win at Spa Francorchamps, reflecting the sadness in the paddock due to tragic Formula 2 incident that led to the loss of Anthoine Hubert and the ongoing condition of Juan Manuel Correa.

Leclerc became the youngest Ferrari driver to win at Monza and ended a nine-year losing streak at Monza for Ferrari sending the tifosi into raptures of delight. Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton completed the podium, but the Renault team were perhaps the most delighted with their 4thand 5thplaces – easily their most successful weekend of the season so far. Daniel Ricciardo and Nico Hulkenberg had locked out the third row of the grid on Saturday and they were able to capitalise on Sebastian Vettel’s spin with Ricciardo. Full race results below:

  1. Charles Leclers Ferrari
  2. Valtteri Bottas Mercedes
  3. Lewis Hamilton Mercedes
  4. Daniel Ricciardo Renault
  5. Nico Hulkenberg Renault
  6. Alexander Albon Reb Bull
  7. Sergio Perez Racing Point
  8. Max Verstappen Red Bull
  9. Antonio Giovinazzi Alfa Romeo
  10. Lando Norris McLaren
  11. Pierre Gasly Toro Rosso
  12. Lance Stroll Racing Point
  13. Sebastian Vettel Ferrari
  14. George Russell Williams
  15. Kimi Raikkonen Afla Romeo
  16. Romain Grosjean Haas
  17. Robert Kubica Williams
  18. NC Kevin Magnussen Hass
  19. NC Daniil Kvyat Toro Rosso
  20. NC Carlos Sainz Jnr McLaren

The excitement of Monza will be at least doubled in Singapore – the city will be lit up for Formula 1’s night race and Amber Lounge will be there to lead the celebrations.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Helpful tips for your visit to Singapore during the Formula 1®

Singapore is such a special travel destination that you may want to leave a couple of days extra in your planning to enjoy Singapore after the excitement of the night time racing of the Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix.  Singapore is one of the most expensive countries in South East Asia and to ensure that you make the most of your experience, here are a few helpful tips to ease your visit.

The cheapest and most convenient way to travel round Singapore is to use the extensive public transport system the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT).  A Singapore tourist pass can be purchased which allows unlimited travel both on the MRT and on the bus.  Obviously, some roads will be closed for the Grand Prix weekend which will cause some disruption to the buses (guide below) but this will not affect the MRT.  Taxis are more expensive and Uber is no longer used in Singapore but there is an app called Grab which is very similar to Uber and can be used for ride sharing.

Singapore enjoys a year-round tropical climate with high humidity and temperatures ranging from 26 to 34 degrees celcius (78-93 degrees farenheit).  Wear loose clothing in natural fibres if you want to avoid melting into a frazzled mess.

The rule of thumb here is to eat with the locals. Singapore offers an array of hipster cafes and fine dining restaurants but the local hawker centres are the best places to try authentic local cuisine.  For those suspicious of questionable food hygiene standards, look out for coloured placards which rate every stall from A (the best) to D (possible risk). Smith Street, Little India and Chinatown are places to look out for.

Singapore is one of the safest cities to visit in the world, due in part to its many laws and regulations which must be strictly adhered to.  Spitting in the street, smoking in public, littering (including sticking chewing gum on public property) will result in a fine.  Illegal drug taking is harshly punished. Smoking is banned in restaurants and clubs as well as within a fixed perimeter around public transport hubs and it is advised to seek out the yellow smokers’ boxes if you really need a smoke!

The tap water in Singapore is safe to drink so remember your refillable bottle and save the planet!

Wi-fi can be expensive but it is easy to charge your devices as electrical plugs are the same configuration as in the UK.

Tipping for good service is not part of Singapore culture so staff will not expect a tip although it is obviously welcome if you wish to reward excellent service.  Smaller shops and hawkers usually charge a 7% goods and services tax and bars and restaurants often charge an additional 10% service charge (denoted on your bill with a ++ symbol).

This collection is crafted with natural fabrics such as silk habotai, linen/cotton blends and silk/cotton blends, sand washed to produce softly draped, wearable clothing that will take you seamlessly from the beach to the evening.

Singaporean sartorial fashion designers to take center stage

Bespoke Singaporean brand Mr G will showcase their couturier suits at this year’s Amber Lounge Singapore Fashion Show.

The Amber Lounge Singapore Fashion Show will showcase this season’s collection of VIP couturier Mr G (Mr Gentleman) who will be suiting
the motorsport drivers taking centre stage under a blaze of lights on this year’s catwalk, in support of ‘Make A Wish Singapore’ foundation.

Gary Ong and Jonathan Wong established the Singaporean-based tailoring label in 2014, with the prime focus of providing a wardrobe to take all clients effortlessly through every significant milestone in life, creating elegantly timeless pieces.

Mr. G began as one of the pioneer travelling suit-makers in Singapore where bespoke tailoring was matched with the utmost convenience and comfort of the client. This personalised service remains the ethos of Mr G with the establishment of its first flagship showroom in the heart of Singapore.

Having worked with several celebrities such as actors Alan Wan and Benjamin Kheng, DJ Kimberly Wang and Mediacorp’s award-winning bilingual host artiste Lee Teng, Mr G certainly knows a thing or two about dressing the VIP in memorable and stylish couture.

Co-Founders Gary Ong & Jonathan Wong said:

“Amber Lounge’s events are a hallmark of a lifestyle that is both aspirational and luxurious. Although luxurious, the idea behind the Amber Lounge Fashion Show is actually something that is symbolic as the models walking on the runway are not professional models, they are actually racers who have spent their whole life honing their craft and living up to the passion of racing. This makes the event much more meaningful and not just a show of aesthetics, it has become a celebration and a tribute to the tradition of racing.”

Singapore Grand Prix is fast approaching and we wanted to give you a glimpse into this glamorous and cosmopolitan city, bursting with cultural experiences to enhance every moment of your F1 grand prix weekend. Here are some of our best tips to enable you to dip into everything Singapore has to offer during this electric weekend.

Getting around the city

The quickest and most convenient way to get to the city from the airport is via the modern Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) rail system. Trains leave every 12 minutes and the journey time into City Hall Station is just 27 minutes.

With the MRT at your disposal, as well as bus and taxis services, it is extremely easy to explore this incredible city during the Grand Prix weekend. Walking around Singapore when these services aren’t available is safe and convenient with the added bonus of being able to stop at places of interest along the way.
Singapore’s Changi Airport has lots to offer with 160 shops and 80 restaurants, there is certainly heaps to keep you entertained before you leave for home.

Only in Singapore

Gear up to explore Singapore’s iconic landmarks during the Formula 1 weekend including The Gardens by the Bay, Marina Bay Sands and Sentosa.

Some of the essential sightseeing locations in Singapore include The Helix Bridge which links the Marina Centre with Marine South and forms part of a 3.5 km pedestrian loop around the bay. Singapore Flyer is the largest observation wheel around the globe at 165m high, 30 m taller than the famous London Eye. The Singapore Zoo is also a definite must-see as it offers the unique experience of a night safari.

Eat like a local

With food to suit everyone’s taste, the hawker centres (aka food courts) are a must when exploring Singapore.
Chinatown Complex Food Centre – here’s where you can find all of the MUST TRY local foods at great value.
Old Airport Road Food Centre – Singapore’s iconic hawker centre offering the best soya beancurd in Singapore.
Maxwell Road Hawker Centre – Famous for it’s food stalls in a great location in China town.
Chomp Chomp Food Centre - For late night diners, experience the best satay in Singapore.

Where to stay

There are plenty of amazing places to stay close to Marina Bay Street Circuit. Concorde Hotel is a great option combining good location and reasonably priced accommodation.
Another amazing option is Conrad Centennial Singapore which located very close to the F1 paddock and Amber Lounge.

Did you know…

Singapore is a city of (man-made) waterfalls. You’ll find the world’s tallest indoor waterfall (35 metres) at the Cloud Forest, Gardens by the Bay.

Singapore is one of only three surviving city-states in the world along with Monaco and Vatican City.

At just 684 square kilometres (264 square miles), Singapore is the smallest country in South East Asia.

Formula 1 is ready to steal the spotlight

Home to the first night race, the floodlit track takes advantage of its impressive landmarks, guiding F1 fans around Singapore sights.

“It’s a very physical circuit - more than I expected, actually. You need to put a lot of work into the car to get a good lap - I’d say it requires double the energy of Monaco over a single lap. One lap around here is like two laps of Monaco!"
